Calm, Consistent Screen Time - Without Daily Arguments

ScreenTickr Help & Getting Started Guide

Welcome to ScreenTickr — a fun and structured way to help kids earn their screen time by completing tasks and building good habits!

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to set up your family, create reward boards, and track progress through the week.

1. Set Up Your Family#

Manage your family members by adding each child who will be using ScreenTickr under the Manage Family section.

Click Add Child to enter each child's name and date of birth.

2. Create Board Templates#

Templates make it easy to reuse the same weekly routine. Board templates define the daily tasks and rewards for your children.

Navigate to the Templates page.

Click Create Template.

Add tasks your child is expected to complete each day — for example:

  • Get Ready for the day (5 minutes)
  • Brush teeth (5 minutes)
  • Homework (5 minutes)
  • Get Ready for bed (5 minutes)

Assign each task a reward value (the number of screen minutes earned for completing it).

Click the Save button to save the template.

Tip: You can create multiple templates — for school weeks, holidays, or different children.

3. Activate a Board#

Once you have your templates set up, it's time to activate a board for the week. The four setup steps are:

From the Reward Charts Templates section of the dashboard, click Activate for the template you want to use. This will take you to the activation view.

From the activation view, set

  1. Child: Select which child this board is for (if you have multiple children).
  2. Start Date: Choose the date you want the week to begin (typically a Monday).
  3. Description: Add a description for the week (e.g. School Week of June 3).

Click Activate to start the week!

4. Track Progress#

As your child completes tasks throughout the week, tap a task cell to set its status:

Done — completed successfully, earns full minutes
Failed — not completed or done late, earns no minutes
Thumbs Down — minutes for this task are deducted from the total
Not Done — not yet completed; also resets a task back to blank

You can also add notes to specific tasks by clicking the note icon.

5. Weekly Results#

At the end of the week, review the total screen time earned based on completed tasks.

Let them use their screen time reward — guilt-free!

You can then lock the board and activate a new one for the next week.

6. Tips & Best Practices#

Be consistent: Update boards daily so your child sees real progress.

Customize: Adjust task difficulty and minutes to fit your child's age.

Encourage teamwork: Let kids check off their own completed tasks.

Balance fun and structure: Use the Thumbs Down option sparingly — it should teach, not discourage.

7. Technical Tips#

For the best experience using ScreenTickr, please keep the following in mind:

Works best in modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge).

Your progress is saved automatically — no need to manually save each change.
